Hoopers Classes in Chesham, Buckinghamshire
Handlers and their dog work together as a team to navigate through a course of tunnels, hoops and barrels. Build confidence, have fun and work in partnership with your dog.
Beginners Hoopers Classes are perfect for you if:
You are completely new to the sport. You will need to introduce the equipment to your dog, and help them build value in it so they seek the obstacles, even at a distance.
You will learn how to use your body and voice to communicate with your dog even at a distance. Signals you will learn (to name but a few); in, out, right, left, round, check (take one obstacle and come straight back to you) and switching directions.
This sport is inclusive. It is lower impact compared to agility, so can be suitable for older or younger dogs (note it still involves tight turns).
It is also incredibly inclusive for people; whether you are young or old, able bodied or disabled, sporty or as slow and uncoordinated as a six week old puppy - we can make it work for you. No pressure.
Hoopers can also be great if you want to go on and do agility, as many of the cues and handling skills you will learn will be transferable. In fact, I would go as far as to say that new teams who start with hoopers will pick up agility far more quickly and naturally!
We also offer progression classes for dogs who have already attended the beginners’ course.
