Beginners Scentwork Classes are perfect for you if:

  • You’d like to teach your dog odour discrimination, independent searching and passive indication.

  • You want to bond with your dog and work as a team - You will learn how to handle your dog so that they view you as an asset, not a hindrance to their search.

  • You want to understanding the subtleties of your dog’s scenting abilities and how to read their body language.

  • You want to build your dog’s confidence: scent-work stimulates the reward centres in the brain resulting in endorphin and dopamine release. 

  • You’d love to improve your dog’s focus and help them learn to slow down and approach things in a more cognitive manner.

After attending this course, you’ll be able to:

  • mentally stimulate your dog at home, in a manner which helps to build focus and does not stress the joints.

  • move on to do the ‘progression’ workshops, which may be at the same location or at a different venue for the more advanced dogs .

  • move onto compete or achieve levels of achievement at our Scentwork UK trials (either with us or anywhere in the country).

  • Dogs must be friendly with other dogs and have had their primary vaccinations, in order to attend our group classes.

    If you are unsure whether your dog is suitable for group classes please get in touch and we can advise you.


  • Yes, we welcome all family members who live with the puppy to come along.


  • At Minds Alike, we're committed to fostering a deep understanding between dogs and their owners. Through our tailored training and behaviour programs, we enrich the lives of dogs by establishing a clear communication system between humans and canines, reinforcing positive appropriate behaviours, promoting self-control, and providing essential mental stimulation.

  • All of our trainers are ABTC registered Animal Training Instructors, or working towards their accreditation, adhering to a strict code of conduct that prioritises best practices, scientific methodologies, and modern training techniques.

  • We use science-based, kind, fair and effective training.

  • Dogs must be friendly with other dogs.

    Dogs must have had their primary vaccinations.

  • Please bring a flat collar/harness and lead (no flexi leads please) a toy, a mat for your dog to sit on and lots of tasty treats!

  • Definitely not! All our sessions can be tailored to the individual needs of each dog.
